We are delighted to share the success of the SPCS PTA Parent-Teacher Association AI Workshops 2025, a two-part series of engaging and educational sessions held on 3 May and 10 May 2025. These workshops were designed to empower parents and students with essential knowledge and hands-on experiences in artificial intelligence, aligning with our mission to promote meaningful learning opportunities and strengthen family bonds in the digital age, and deepen their knowledge towards Chinese cultural and national belongings.
Workshop Part 1: “How to Become a Tech-Ready Parent in the AI Era”
The first workshop, exclusive to parents, was conducted on 3 May 2025 at the Preface AI Cafe. Led by Dr. Alfred Tse, Co-Founder and Education Director of Preface, this session equipped parents with a foundational understanding of AI technologies and their significance in today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Participants explored:
- The latest developments in AI, with a focus on the Chinese AI ecosystem and its impact on education, social values, and home life.
- Strategies for fostering healthy technology habits and promoting digital literacy within their families.
- Practical tools and frameworks to guide their children in navigating the digital world responsibly and critically.
Through interactive discussions and hands-on activities, parents gained confidence in becoming “Tech-ready Parents,” ready to guide their children toward mindful and purposeful engagement with technology.
Workshop Part 2: “Parent-Child AI Co-Creation: Exploring AI’s Potential Together”
The second workshop, held on 10 May 2025 in the MMLC Room at St. Paul’s Convent School, brought together parents and their daughters for a collaborative and creative workshop. Building on the foundations from the first session, this workshop encouraged families to explore AI’s transformative potential through interactive challenges and co-creation activities.
Highlights included:
- Icebreaking with AI tools: Participants used AI applications like Animated Drawings and Quiver AR to bring their artwork to life, sparking curiosity about AI’s capabilities.
- Exploring Generative AI: Families learned about generative AI models such as ChatGPT and Krea.ai, diving into their evolution from text-based systems to advanced image and video creation tools.
- Hands-on Projects: Parents and students co-created AI-driven projects, including:
- Crafting collaborative poems using POE (AI-powered poetry tools).
- Designing imaginative future visions of schools, homes, and cities using Krea.ai.
- Transfoming static images into videos with RunwayML, showcasing the exciting possibilities of visual AI.
The session concluded with a presentation of the co-created projects, a discussion on AI ethics and responsible use, and a memorable group photo capturing the creativity and collaboration of all participants.
A Memorable Experience
Both workshops were met with enthusiastic participation and positive feedback from attendees, who appreciated the opportunity to explore AI in an interactive and family-oriented setting. These sessions not only enhanced participants’ understanding of AI but also strengthened parent-child bonds through shared learning experiences.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Alfred Tse and the Preface team for their expert guidance, as well as to all the parents and students who joined us on this journey into the world of AI.
Together, we continue to embrace the opportunities of the AI era for the benefit of our families and community.
