Pilot China Field Trip to Liannan (02.04.2010 – 02.04.2010)

We are delighted that the pilot field trip to Liannan, Mainland China was successfully held on April 2-4, 2010 despite the chilly weather with constant heavy rain. A total of 46 participants comprising 21 students, 2 teachers and 23 student’s family members graciously went on the trip to provide service to the needy in the Mainland China, to exchange school learning, and to explore cultural experience.

With the joint efforts of all participants, a total of 20 book-shelves were built, painted and set up in the library of San Jiang Primary School. Books received from Jiangnan Middle School, whose teachers and students visited SPCS in January, were also donated to this library and put up on the book-shelves at the same time. Our student participants were in return arranged to learn needle-work and skills from the students there.

Another highlight of the trip was the home visit to 8 local families by participants divided into 8 small groups..  Participants were given a chance to see the different life style in the village. Participants were treated lunch by the local families and some even with home-made specialties too. A small gift was given to each family as a gesture of appreciations after the visit.

Apart from the above, participants also visited Lingnan Impressions in Guangzhou and the Nanggang Thousand-year Yao Zu Village in Liannan.

We believe that this project was both meaningful and educational. Not only could the students provide service in the Mainland China, but also learn the different cultures of China in Liannan. Questionnaires  were distributed to the participants to collect comments and suggestions, and to seek their views if  similar field trips should be arranged for our students in the future.

The PTA sincerely extends our heartfelt thanks to the Parents and School for their tremendous supports in making this meaningful event a success. Special thanks go to all the daddy participants who voluntarily helped in off-loading the heavy boxes of book-shelves materials and books from the bus in spite of heavy rain.
